It was once thought that it is found only in organisms that withstand extreme living conditions (extremophiles), but it turns out that many organisms synthesize it in difficult conditions of drought or high salinity due to its protective properties. Humans cannot synthesize trehalose, but it is very useful when applied to the skin. It reduces cell damage due to dehydration, soothes sensitive skin, reduces the harmful effect of UV radiation without having the effect of a UV filter, and stimulates collagen synthesis.
